Leicester University
C&C were called in by The Russell Partnership to discuss a
new fast-track project, having previously completed a busy
new coffee shop together in the nearby Library building.
Leicester University wanted to convert a substantial basement
area, into a stylish new catering outlet.
Because of the need to complete the scheme
quickly, the client had decided to forego the usual tender
process and called upon the consultant’s experience to select
a contractor who could deliver within timescale and within
budget – and C&C’s track record was impressive.
The Russell Partnership’s brief was to design a modern retail
grab and go outlet not out of place on a top London High
Street. A new approach to a ‘deli’ style offering allows
customers to order hot or cold gourmet sandwiches to take
out or eat in a small seating area, with refrigerated displays
and multi decks for fast purchases.
Out of hours and weekend working became commonplace
to hit the agreed delivery date. A typical example was when
pipe work had to be fed through the ceiling to remote
refrigeration plant on a flat roof. In the fast-track environment,
only one window of opportunity was available - which meant
working over the weekend
